Challenge by UBB

LPWAN's native geo-localization with Wi-Fi and Smart Bluetooth sniffing by Security4Things

You have been challenged by Security4Things.

Use Wi-Fi and BLE sniffing to increase the accuracy of LPWAN’s geo-localization. New LPWANs – IoT designed networks, such as LoRa, SIGFOX and NB-IOT bring the capability of native geo-localization – locate any sensor without GNSS. A perfect deployment of LPWAN still has a 20-50 m average localization errors. In rural places, the error can increase up to a few hundred meters. There is a need for “LAST-MILE LOCALISATION”. Use Wi-Fi SSID and Smart Bluetooth (BLE) sniffing for the last few hundred meters localization.

The expected outcome is to prove, in a working prototype, the value and limitations of Wi-Fi and BLE sniffing for last-mile localization.

DISCOVER Cluj - find your way in the Heart of Transylvania by Primăria Municipiului Cluj-Napoca

  • cele mai importante obiective istorice și culturale din apropriere;
  • restaurantele, cafenelele, pub-urile etc. recomandate în zonă;
  • cele mai apropiate farmacii și spitale, lista cabinetelor stomatologice din oraș;
  • cele mai apropiate stații de transport în comun și de taximetre;
  • propuneri de tururi/trasee prin oraș și prin împrejurimile lui;

Pair with a dev team and help them test by Tabăra de Testare

You have been challenged by Tabăra de Testare. Choose a development team & support them with testing. The artifact will be your test report. Win 4 tickets at the next Autumn Camp.

Choose a development team and pair with them. Help them with testing and provide a test report at the end. One of the biggest challenges is that time is ticking and development teams need to be very fast in order to finish their challenge in time. This means that they might feel in a hurry and feel the time-pressured when being asked to provide all the extra details we may need. So how could we help them? We have some recommendations below, and we appreciate your ingenuity.

1. Brainstorming and analysis phase

First, it’s important that the dev team starts implementing the optimal solution. If the idea they start with proves wrong along the way, they might not have enough time to start again everything from scratch. Therefore, understand what they want to build and how. Put on your critical thinking hat, and think about ways in which the planned product could fail. How probable is that to happen? Another idea in the analysis phase is to think about how you will test the product. Are there things that are harder to test? Can that be easily improved?

2. Implementation phase

Try to understand the product that’s being built. One idea to do this is to shadow the developers while they’re working. Begin thinking about test ideas when the product will be ready for testing, and prepare your test data. The last hours will surely be very busy with testing and finalizing the test report, so take advantage of this time to think about your strategy and your plan. Some useful information related to test reports is available here & here (Click on Complete Team Ranking for each continent and some will have reports to download – starting with Team Bugterrier). SWTC (Software Testing World Cup) is an annual competition of 3 hours of testing and reporting.

3. Testing phase

There’s no need to add details here. You know better how things work :). Just a kind reminder: don’t forget that the test report will be the artefact based on which your team’s performance will be evaluated. Good luck and don’t forget to have fun!

The expected outcome is to support the development teams, learn new things about test reporting and have fun. We strongly encourage communication, sharing ideas and challenges with the other test teams.

Tabăra de Testare, literally The Testing Camp, is a community of testers and other IT professionals from the IT industry who share knowledge and learn from their peers’ experiences during monthly meetings.

Digital Banking Challenges

Banking 3.0 by BRD

You have been challenged by BRD.

Have you ever wanted a bank that helps you bring your lifestyle to the next level? More than a bank, but a life facilitator which proposes you relevant content and items? A bank that provides a customer centric payment method and loyalty reward solution. Today, you have the chance to design the bank of the future!

This challenge asks for the definition of a conceptual mobility solution to build a strong emotional bond with the customers.

The expected outcome can be:

  • Producing a mobile solution to simulate a highly personalized approach to customers, based on contextual insights.
  • Producing a mobile solution with a frictionless experience, insightful enough for customers to regularly consult the solution.
  • Producing a lifestyle mobile solution centralizing aggregated content and facilitating the payment process.

Background: BRD is constantly looking for ways to bring more value to their customers, by building a better customer experience and boosting customer engagement.

Considerations: The European legislation will require banks to open their data through API. It is a good opportunity to centralize all customer data under a single solution. The solution has to do all the magic from raw data.

Expected outcome: this challenge asks for the definition of a conceptual mobility solution to build a strong emotional bond with the customers.

Level – Advanced: BRD will award one prize of 3000 euro to the winning team (1st place for the entire Digital Banking category) and the opportunity to pitch the idea to BRD’s top management. For the 2nd and the 3rd place, the teams will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to BRD’s top management.

Banking beyond the banking world by BRD

You have been challenged by BRD.

Unconventional. Excentric. Innovative. Unexpected. This is what this challenge is all about. Design a new way for a bank to reach out to customers, completely different from the traditional channels. Change the rules. Do this through developing an interactive app or anything else you can think of for digitally-native customers to put banking in an unconventional context and enhance the experience and life of the customers outside the banking world.

Background: Banking is an essential part of people’s daily life, but it is usually perceived and thought of in pejorative terms. The working of the customer’s mind is a mystery which is difficult to solve and understanding the nuances of what perception the customer has to attain satisfaction is a challenging task. It is said that “customers know what to expect”. Give them the unexpected. Design a solution that turns the customers’ perceptions from bored to excited, distrustful to empowered, hate to love.

Considerations: You should have in view the customers’ style of living, routines, way of acting and interacting with the world. Also, you should consider that everything is changing fast and keeping the customer continuously engaged is key to long lasting relationships.

Expected outcome: an interactive app / else for digitally-natives to make banking unconventional and enhance the customer’s experience outside banking world.

Level – Intermediate: BRD will award one prize of 3000 euro to the winning team (1st place for the entire Digital Banking category) and the opportunity to pitch the idea to BRD’s top management. For the 2nd and the 3rd place, the teams will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to BRD’s top management.

Gamification of mobile banking app by BRD

You have been challenged by BRD.

An interactive app for mobile banking that uses smart phone geo location / any other sensory information and creates a game from the banking daily interactions. The goal of this challenge is to transform the “chores” associated with managing money, bills, savings, loans, payments and investments into a funny and rewarding experience.

Background: The banking apps may have a reputation of a necessary evil, where users go and perform all kinds of money related tasks such as: checking the account balance and transactions, make deposits or loans, pay bills or generally transfer money etc.

Considerations: The app should allow the above mentioned operations, but transform them into a game, using any kind of elements. From the graphic theme to the level-up conditions, from various individual super power skills to assembling parties with fellow users, all is allowed as part of this new kind of interaction with your money. The application could have links to social media platforms and use or send relevant content. Tip: Different users might be of various types of players such as: achievers (going for more points); socializers (going for fame) or explorers (going for novelty). The game rules are entirely flexible and even the rewards may be not only discounts or exclusive bank products, but also tickets to concerts or other gifts. Various game mechanics may be applied, such as: Quests, Treasure Hunts and why not, even Boss Battles.

Expected outcome: an interactive app for mobile banking that uses smart phone geo location / any other sensory information and creates a game from the banking daily interactions.

Stop cozi – People counter by GovITHub
